Lab-Scale Carbonation of Wood Ash for CO2-Sequestration

نویسندگان

چکیده

This study evaluated the CO2 sequestration potential with combustion ashes in aqueous phase. The aim was to provide a cost-effective carbon method for unit operators (flue gas cleaning) or biogas producers (biogas upgrading). Therefore, two separate test series were executed identify carbonation efficiency (CE) of bottom wood ash (1) at different mixing ratios water batch experiments and (2) under dynamic flow conditions. It furthermore whether subsequent use carbonated soil amendment could be possible process passed into sewage. showed that had an influence on CE. mean CE varied between approximately 14% 17%. Thus, proved suitable processes. dischargeable, has chalking, as no legal thresholds exceeded. used low-tech technology. Compared existing energy consuming cost intensive capture storage technologies, beneficial, it represents approach.

Carbonation of brine impacted fractionated coal fly ash: implications for CO2 sequestration.

Coal combustion by-products such as fly ash (FA), brine and CO(2) from coal fired power plants have the potential to impact negatively on the environment. FA and brine can contaminate the soil, surface and ground water through leaching of toxic elements present in their matrices while CO(2) has been identified as a green house gas that contributes significantly towards the global warming effect...

Sequestration of Martian CO2 by mineral carbonation

Carbonation is the water-mediated replacement of silicate minerals, such as olivine, by carbonate, and is commonplace in the Earth's crust. This reaction can remove significant quantities of CO2 from the atmosphere and store it over geological timescales. Here we present the first direct evidence for CO2 sequestration and storage on Mars by mineral carbonation. Electron beam imaging and analysi...

Carbonation: An Efficient and Economical Process for CO2 Sequestration

Naturally occurring carbonation of cement-based materials is a slow phenomenon. Many factors control the rate of carbonation process in cement-based products. A comprehensive knowledge of the major factors controlling the rate of carbonation, and their effects on the properties of the materials subjected to it, is necessary for using this technology for CO2 sequestration. Most of the studies re...

Mineral sequestration of CO(2) by aqueous carbonation of coal combustion fly-ash.

The increasing CO(2) concentration in the Earth's atmosphere, mainly caused by fossil fuel combustion, has led to concerns about global warming. A technology that could possibly contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions is the in-situ mineral sequestration (long term geological storage) or the ex-situ mineral sequestration (controlled industrial reactors) of CO(2). In the present study, w...
